Ringworm is a disease that has a very strange pathogen agent. Its name suggests that it may be a worm, but the truth is very different. It is not a worm that makes people sick, it is a fungus. Why the name confusion? Well, the answer is pretty simple: the lesions that the fungus leaves on the skin resembles those left behind by a worm problem. Ringworm picturesThus, as it has already been established that the guilty party is a fungus named Dermatophytes (which literally means "skin fungus"), the treatment becomes rather obvious: the only thing that kills a fungus is antifungal medication. Ringworm treatment picturesThere are many things to be said about the ringworm treatment, but the only one important is that it can be split in two: the first part is the one that can be done at home, by everyone. The second one is the one that only a physician can recommend. On the one hand, there are some tips and tricks that can be considered treatment if they are applied properly: do not share your clothes, do not share your towels and, most importantly, do not bathe in public swimming pools or in public bath houses. On the other hand, if the over - the - counter medication does not seem to solve your skin problem, maybe you should consider scheduling a visit with your attending physician. He or she will probably prescribe you an antifungal, thus efficiently killing any fungi. ...see more Ringworm treatment pictures: Ringworm treatment pictures Ringworm symptoms picturesThe trick with ringworm symptoms is that they differ from the type of fungus that causes the disease and the location of said illness. For example, if the pathogen agent attacks the scalp, then hair loss can be a problem. However, if the fungus attaches itself to a hair - free area of the skin, then hair loss cannot count as a symptom. The most common ringworm symptoms are, in order of appearance, the following: a redness of the affected area, scales that cover it and, eventually, an itch. Just like with any other skin disease, you must not scratch that itch. ...see more Ringworm symptoms pictures: Ringworm symptoms pictures Ringworm in dogs pictures and ringworm in cats picturesPerhaps it is hard to imagine, but ringworm is one of the very few diseases that can affect both humans and animals. While some animals manifest a sort of immunity for such fungi, the sheltered pets have lost it. Therefore, if your cat or dog has come in contact with another sick pet or even an infected human, they will have a problem. Be very careful, since it affects animals much worse than it does humans: they tend to lose their hair or fur, which can only lead to more troubles. ...see more Ringworm in dogs pictures: Ringworm in dogs pictures ...see more Ringworm in cats pictures: Ringworm in cats pictures Scalp ringworm pictures and ringworm skin picturesScalp ringworm is the common name for Tinea capitis, the most important of all the ringworm variations. It affects children between the ages of four and fourteen, because they are the most exposed to an environment that holds the key conditions for ringworm to develop: heat, humidity and human contact. Advising your child to stop hugging his or her friends or to stop swimming in the local public swimming pool might not be a good idea. Ringworm skin problems range from the not so noticeable (like the redness) to the very awkward (like the scales). Unfortunately, none of them can be avoided or stopped. Once the symptoms begin, there is very little chance of stopping their evolution. ...see more Scalp ringworm pictures: Scalp ringworm pictures ...see more Ringworm skin pictures: Ringworm skin pictures Ringworm rash pictures and contagious ringworm picturesThe ringworm rash is the final ringworm symptom and, also, the one that seals the deal on the diagnosis. If, until then, your other symptoms, the rash and the scales could be easily mistaken for a severe case of dandruff, once the ringworm rash appears, there is no doubt about the diagnosis. Be very careful to not aggravate it, since it can spread to other areas. The one question that every patient should ask their attending physician is the following: is ringworm contagious? The answer is pretty clear: yes, ringworm is contagious. Just like any other skin disease out there, ringworm does not have any sort of preference on age, sex and social standing. If you come in contact with anyone sick, you will get infected. ...see more Ringworm rash pictures: Ringworm rash pictures ...see more Contagious ringworm pictures: Contagious ringworm pictures Ringworm cure and ringworm home remediesFinding the ringworm cure was not exactly a difficult thing once it has been established that the pathogen agent is a fungus, not a worm. Usually, an antifungal will take care of it, but there are some other things to be taken into consideration. There are things to be said about the ringworm home remedies and very few of them are actually nice. The most important thing you should know, though, is that none of them actually kills the fungus. Most of them just clear the skin, but do not destroy the pathogen agent. ...read more about Ringworm cure: Ringworm cure ...read more about Ringworm home remedies: Ringworm home remedies Ringworm in humans pictures and ringworm in children picturesRingworm in humans is not exactly a problem. True, it is a skin disease and it can affect the sufferer greatly, but it cannot be blamed for being lethal. The most disturbing thing that can be said about ringworm in humans is that it is highly annoying. Though if you interpret the symptoms correctly and follow the prescribed treatment, you should be left with no signs of ever been sick in no time. The tricky part about ringworm in children is that it is sort of difficult to treat. Children's immune systems are still developing at the age that they are attacked by ringworm and the side effects of the treatment are greater than in adults. However, if everything goes well, your child should be disease free in about a week. ...see more Ringworm in humans pictures: Ringworm in humans pictures ...see more Ringworm in children pictures: Ringworm in children pictures Ringworm causes and ringworm on face picturesThe only true cause of ringworm is the fungus that attacks both humans and animals: Dermatophytes. Put those three together and the chance of not getting infected is minimal. The devastation provoked by ringworm on face is nothing you could picture. However, do not despair.
